Probability and Statistics Lecture
Again, the name is fairly self-explanatory! In semester 1 you do probability, which is what you call statistics at school. In semester 2 you start proper statistics! This includes working with a range of distributions and things like hypothesis testing. This module really helps you to relate maths to the real world. There are still quite a number of people in these lectures, as all the students taking Financial Maths or Maths and Economics (etc.) are required to take this module.
We get given questions prior to the tutorial and are expected to attempt them beforehand. We then use the tutorials as the time to ask for help. The questions aren’t marked, but we occasionally get set coursework questions which are handed in and count towards our end of year mark. In semester 1 our lecturer also set us regular online tests. There is one exam for this module at the end of the year.
